Buying in Epsom
Epsom is officially a true real estate hotspot, with one of the fastest rising median prices in New Zealand.
Key to that growth is a drive to get children into some of the countries most sort after school zones. These include Auckland Grammar School and Epsom Girls Grammar along with a host of excellent primary, intermediate and private schools.
Upper middle class families are lured by stately homes on large established gardens lined up along leafy streets. In recent years, many larger sections have been divided up for townhouses to cater for growing demand from urbanites. High quality, low rise terrace housing offers another option along the main arterial roads.
There’s never any shortage of people who want to live here so close to the prime shopping precinct of Broadway Newmarket where some of the finest boutiques jostle with great cafes, restaurants and galleries. Residents can avoid the roads by hopping on a bus or taking the train to Newmarket or Britomart downtown from Greenlane Station.
Whether it’s retail therapy or international cuisine you’re after, Epsom residents are well-served. There’s Greenwoods Corner in Epsom South and Great South Road as well as the shopping villages of Mt Eden and Remuera nearby…all only about 10 minutes away from the CBD and all of the waterfront’s recreational and foodie facilities.
Epsom also has plenty of sports clubs covering an array of codes and nearby Greenlane is home to the Auckland Racing Club which shares its patch with the Ellerslie Event Centre, the busiest exhibition centre in New Zealand and of course One Tree Hill itself.
The cheapest way to own a slice of Epsom is to buy a one or two bedroom unit. They start at around $400k and prices go all the way up to an average $8 million for a grand mansion.
